The Challenge

The Cutler VLF Towers in coastal Maine are exposed to one of the harshest corrosion environments in the United States. Situated near the Atlantic shoreline, the towers endure persistent salt-laden air, high winds, heavy precipitation, and significant seasonal temperature swings, including freeze–thaw cycles that can accelerate coating breakdown.

Why Wasser

To protect this critical communications infrastructure, Wasser supplied a high-performance moisture-cured urethane system consisting of Primer MC-Universal and MC-Luster as the finish coat. Following proper surface preparation and abrasive blasting to achieve the required cleanliness and anchor profile, Primer MC-Universal was applied to establish strong adhesion to the steel substrate while providing robust corrosion resistance and moisture tolerance in demanding coastal conditions.

Wasser's Solution

The system was completed with MC-Luster as the topcoat, delivering long-term weatherability, UV resistance, and superior gloss and color retention despite constant exposure to sun, wind, and salt spray. This moisture-cured technology allows for reliable curing even in high-humidity environments, making it especially well suited for Maine’s unpredictable weather.
