The Challenge

The Ship Canal Bridge is a critical transportation link carrying Interstate 5 through the heart of Seattle. Owned by the Washington State Department of Transportation, the bridge's structural steel is exposed to constant moisture, urban pollutants, and changing weather conditions that accelerate corrosion and increase long-term maintenance demands. Preserving this high-traffic structure required a durable coating system capable of providing long-term protection with minimal disruption to daily commuters.

Wasser's Solution

To protect the bridge's structural steel, a three-coat Wasser system was applied using MC-Zinc 100 as the zinc-rich primer, MC-Ferrox B as the intermediate coat, and MC-Luster as the durable finish coat. Together, these moisture-cured urethane coatings provide a combination of galvanic protection, environmental resistance, and long-term durability, helping preserve the bridge's structural integrity and extend its service life.
