The Challenge

The towers and structural steel of the Golden Gate Bridge are exposed to one of the world's harshest corrosion environments. Salt-laden fog, high humidity, strong coastal winds, UV exposure, and constant traffic create ongoing maintenance challenges. The selected coating system needed to provide long-term corrosion protection while allowing efficient application with minimal disruption to this iconic structure.

Wasser's Solution

The bridge's structural steel was protected with a three-coat system consisting of MC-Zinc 100 primer, MC-Ferrox B intermediate coat, and MC-Luster finish coat. The towers received a dedicated two-coat system using MC-Zinc 100 and MC-Tar 100. Together, these moisture-cured urethane systems provide durable corrosion protection and extended service life in a challenging coastal environment.
