PROJECT NAME Folsom Dam Gates

The Challenge

Folsom Dam’s exposed structural steel is subjected to continuous moisture, high humidity, and aggressive splash-zone conditions from turbulent water discharge. These elements accelerate corrosion, particularly on complex assemblies and connection points where coating access and uniform coverage are more difficult. Maintaining long-term protection while working within an active, high-security infrastructure environment required a durable system and precise application.

Why Wasser

Wasser’s coating system brings together zinc-rich protection and high-build barrier performance suited for severe service environments. MC-Miozinc 100 primer provides galvanic corrosion protection, while MC-Miomastic 100 builds a dense, impact-resistant intermediate layer. The MC-Ferrox A 100 topcoat completes the system with a durable, weather-resistant finish designed to hold up under continuous exposure.

Wasser's Solution

Contractor FD Thomas executed surface preparation and coating application under controlled conditions to ensure proper adhesion and film integrity across all structural components. The full system, MC-Miozinc 100 primer, MC-Miomastic 100 intermediate, and MC-Ferrox A 100 topcoat was applied to achieve comprehensive protection. The completed work provides a uniform, high-performance coating system that enhances durability and extends the service life of the dam’s steel infrastructure.
